Fitness Warm Up

fitness warm up

Many people ask if they should warm-up and stretch before they exercise, largely because that’s what we were taught as kids and even today by some fitness experts. And while I highly recommend a fitness warm up and stretching, I find the passive, easy type of stretching most of us are familiar with more beneficial when done at the end of your activity session, as part of a cool-down.

Every type of exercise incorporates some form of stretching, typically in a dynamic fashion as we flex and extend our muscles throughout the movement. Remember, one of the many benefits of Bodyweight Exercises is that they simultaneously develop balance, strength, endurance and flexibility.

The program presented here contains controlled movements which do not require a great deal of stretching before you begin. If you are, however, exercising first thing in the morning you may find yourself a bit tight. If this is the case, you will need to do an active fitness warm up.

You will find three dynamic stretches I love to do as a fitness warm up in the program section of my book.
