The Secret to Success

Failure, by definition a lack of success, is clearly thought of as a negative result. However, when viewed in its proper context, is in fact a necessary step towards the desired outcome of improvement. Failure is a process that allows us to grow, as we begin again with more knowledge and insight. We cannot achieve our full potential without failure, because we will never know how far we can go if we don’t keep pressing.

This is true in all areas of our lives, and is especially evident as we strive to improve our fitness level. When it comes to conditioning, failure is an essential part of the process. Resistance training creates the need for adaptions that in turn make us stronger. During aerobic exercise, similarly our body adapts to the stress placed on our cardiovascular system, making us more efficient. Even stretching requires us to move our joints beyond a typical range of motion in an effort to gain greater flexibility.

As we strive towards greater health, both mental and physical, embrace the challenges ahead. Yes, especially the ones that cause us to fail. God promises us in James 1:2-4 that the struggle is worthwhile.

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
